This railroad overcrossing was built in 1940 and bypassed Main Street just to the south, creating a smoother traffic flow at the time along the historic Pacific Highway (then called the Capitol Highway at the time through this area). There is another bridge/overpass a short distance to the west of this overcrossing (with no plaques) that spans Fanno Creek. That bridge/overpass also represents the same architecture in appearance, so it is assumed both were built at the same time.
