On January 27, 1907, the Moose Lodge for Connellsville was planned. This would be the first Moose Lodge in Pennsylvania and is the second oldest in the country. At the charter date, the group leased a building for a lodge on North Pittsburgh Street that was to expire the length of the lease. This lodge was palatal when the lodge was chartered, however it was ten years later inadequate for the lodges’ needs.
In January 1917, the organization was incorporated and plans were made to purchase the present property, then known as the Hetzel Property on West Apple Street in the City. The new building contained a large lodge room and anteroom (vestibule) along with a banquet hall. Facilities were initially planned for the ladies at a later time.
A wreck of a fire in 1936 challenged the lodge to build a new home and they did just that in 1939, when they financed $30,000 to do so. Until this time, a dwelling near the first lodge was used as a temporary home. The contractor was Robert H. Fox of nearby Mount Pleasant, the building or 34 X 88 feet in dimension of a Red Brick Structure was constructed. The first floor is a large social room and a parlor for the women. A lodge hall was placed on the second floor to permit dancing.
The moose home was renovated in the late 1970s by Club Members and during this time the temporary home was the Sons of Italy Lodge on Rodgers Avenue in Connellsville Township. The club celebrated its centennial of the charter in 2007 with a program placed in the Connellsville Daily Courier.
