[DE] "Zu einem Besuch des Ostseebades Warnemünde gehört auch ein Spaziergang auf der 541m langen Westmole. Die weit in die Ostsee ragende Westmole dient hauptsächlich als Schutz und Wellenbrecher. Mit der gezielt aufgeschütteten und gut befestigten Mole wird die ungeheure Kraft der anbrandenden Ostsee bei Schlechtwetter gebrochen.
Am Ende der Westmole befindet sich die 1998 errichtete ca. 12m hohe Leuchtbake. Sie erleichtert ankommenden Schiffen die Einfahrt in den Hafen von Rostock. Somit erhalten Sie von der Mole auch umgekehrt einen herrlichen Blick auf die verkehrenden Schiffe und den Küstenverlauf von Rosenort im Osten und Stoltera im Westen. Der Besuch der Westmole ist witterungsabhängig; bei rauer See spritzt einem schon mal die Gischt ins Gesicht.
Geschichtliches zur Westmole von Warnemünde
Ende 16. Anfang 17. Jahrhundert bestand die Westmole aus abgesetzten Steinkästen, über denen Backsteine in Deichprofil lagerten. Der 320m lange Steindamm beherbergte auf seinem Molenkopf eine kegelförmige, unbefeuerte Bake mit einem fassähnlichen Toppzeichen. Wegen des geplanten Fährverkehrs nach Dänemark wurde die Mole 1896 um 133 Meter verlängert. Nun stand auf dem Molenkopf eine rote Leuchtbake mit weißem Gitterkopf und einer Nebelglocke. Schließlich wurde die Westmole im Jahr 1902/03 auf ihre derzeitige Länge von 541m ausgebaut."
[EN] "A visit to the Baltic seaside resort of Warnemünde also includes a walk on the 541m long western pier. The western pier, which extends far into the Baltic Sea, is mainly used as a shelter and breakwater. In bad weather, the tremendous power of the burning Baltic Sea is broken up with the well-filled and well fortified breakwater.
At the end of the western pier is the 12m high illuminated beacon, erected in 1998. It makes it easier for arriving ships to enter the port of Rostock. Historical facts about the west pier of Warnemünde
At the end of the 16th century at the beginning of the 17th century, the western pier consisted of recessed stone boxes above which bricks were laid in dyke profiles. The 320m long Steindamm dam contained a conical, unfired beacon with a barrel like top sign on its pier head. Due to the planned ferry traffic to Denmark, the pier was extended by 133 metres in 1896. Now a red beacon with a white lattice head and a fog bell stood on the pier head. Finally, in 1902/03, the West pier was extended to its current length of 541m."
