On Monday, January 31, 2018, at around 1 p.m., the demolition of the IMAX theater in Riverfront Park began.

Following is the original information associated with this waymark:

This IMAX became a bookcrossing zone in 2005 with the release of The Reading Group, by Elizabeth Noble, on Wednesday, August 17, 2005. Since that time three more books have been released here, all on Saturday, November 20, 2010.

What that means is that the original IMAX was built for Expo 74 in 1974, and was only the third IMAX theatre built. During the fair's six month run, the theatre attracted five million viewers. Its screen was 27 m × 20 m (89 ft × 66 ft) in size and was housed in the US Pavilion. The original IMAX lasted only another three years, with this one being built next to the site of the original in 1978.

The present IMAX Theatre boasts the largest indoor free standing screen in the Pacific Northwest, at over 53 feet tall by 69 feet wide.

I wish I could say that we had enjoyed a movie while visiting, but the theatre was, unfortunately, closed for maintenance at that time. They're up and running again, screening FREE holiday features during the Christmas holiday season.

As an added bonus, for something to do while waiting for the next movie, one may play indoor mini golf in the building under the watchful eye of several resident dinosaurs.
