"La Coupole de l’Astronome sera équipée d’un télescope Meade 16 de 40,6 cm de diamètre placé sur une monture GM4000. Un équipement de pointe ! Avec cet instrument, les cratères lunaires seront vus comme si on les survolait depuis un vaisseau qui tournerait autour de notre satellite naturel. Les anneaux de Saturne ou encore les bandes nuageuses de Jupiter seront à la portée des observateurs.
Et qui seront ces derniers ? Les visiteurs de la Cité de l’espace bien évidemment (aucun supplément, l’accès à l’observatoire est compris dans le prix d’entrée), guidés par des animateurs qui piloteront pour eux les équipements de l’observatoire. On pense alors aux nocturnes de la Cité de l’espace qui ne manqueront pas de rythmer la saison estivale qui s’annonce. Mais ce serait une erreur de croire que la Coupole de l’Astronome ne s’ouvrira que lorsque le Soleil sera couché. En journée, lors des heures d’ouverture courantes du parc, la Lune pourra être admirée sous certaines conditions, mais, surtout, le Soleil offrira aux astronomes de passage un spectacle en toute sécurité. Nous rappelons qu’il ne faut jamais tenter d’observer l’astre du jour sans un équipement adéquat. Et cet équipement fait partie des instruments de la Coupole de l’Astronome. Un premier dispositif projettera sur un écran le disque du Soleil afin d’y détecter les taches solaires, des zones d’activité parfois bien plus grandes que notre planète Terre ! De plus, grâce à une lunette spéciale fabriquée par la société Lunt, notre étoile se dévoilera en H-Alpha. Qu’est-ce que cela signifie ? Le H-Alpha est une partie très précise du spectre lumineux qui permet de voir l’activité bouillonnante du Soleil et notamment ses éruptions. En H-Alpha, notre étoile montre qu’elle est vivante !"

The visitors of the Cité de l'espace obviously (no extra charge, access to the observatory is included in the entrance fee), guided by animators who will pilot the equipment of the observatory for them. We think then of the nocturnes of the Cité de l'espace which will not fail to punctuate the summer season which is announced. But it would be a mistake to believe that the Astronomer's Dome will only open when the Sun is down. During the day, during the current opening hours of the park, the Moon can be admired under certain conditions, but, above all, the Sun will offer astronomers passing a show safely. We remind that we must never try to observe the star of the day without adequate equipment. And this equipment is part of the instruments of the Dome of the Astronomer. A first device will project on a screen the disk of the Sun to detect sunspots, areas of activity sometimes much larger than our planet Earth! In addition, thanks to a special bezel manufactured by the company Lunt, our star will be revealed in H-Alpha. What does that mean ? The H-Alpha is a very precise part of the light spectrum which allows to see the bubbling activity of the Sun and especially its eruptions. In H-Alpha, our star shows that she is alive! "
