U.S. Post Office - Cordell, OK - WPA Projects on Waymarking.com

The Cordell post office is located at 121 E. First Street. This is a one-story light tan brick building with a flat roof and a basement. The rear section of the building has two levels under the common flat roof. The original building is L-shaped with a tall chimney at the inner corner of the L. An addition has been added to the west side of the building at a later time.

The facade facing south is symmetrical, with 12-over-12 double hung windows. The entrance bay has a wall of concave, vertical limestone panels with the words "United States Post Office" on the upper wall, and "Cordell Oklahoma" over the door. Seven concrete steps lead up to a single door and segmented sidelight, with a 12-pane fixed transom above. This post office was one of many made possible by funding from the Treasury Department. It was completed in 1937 and is still in use today.
