The gate was built in 1332 by Elector Balduin . It served as the northern passage of the city wall. The Endertor shielded the city from attacks from Enderttal. It was well known among travelers, as the passengers of the stagecoaches to Cologne and Frankfurt here or before the neighboring Torschenke gathered for departure.
For a time, the Endertor Gate served as Cochem City Prison.
The gate is still complete. There is also the associated Torwärterhäuschen. Today it is located in the area of the busy pedestrian area of the city.
