This bench is located in front of the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. The marble bench is dedicated in honor of Private Samuel Slavens. Slavens was one of the Union Army men who during the Civil War hijacked a Confederate train called "The General". Unfortunately Slavens was captured with his crew and executed. He was one of the first men given the Medal of Honor. The General is inside the museum.
