Life was full of sorrow in 18th century America. This headstone marks the grave of three children of David and Sally Mayo. Two unnamed children died in childbirth and David Mayo was drowned.

A slate headstone with the images of three winged angels is inscribed:

In memory of
Three Children of Mr. David
And Mrs. Sally Mayo, the 1st
Born & Died octr. 20th, 1789.
The 2d. Named David, was
Drowned febur. 24, 1791, Aged
3 years 10 months & 19 days.

Ye 3d. born & died Dec. 28, 1791.

Go home our parents from our graves
And own the sentence just.
But oh the (intelligible) is unto You
to follow us.
