En bordure de la RN96, dans la nuit du 4 au 5 août 1952, trois Anglais, Sir Jack Drummond, scientifique de 61 ans, son épouse Anne Wilbraham, 45 ans, et leur fille de 10 ans, Elizabeth, sont assassinés près de leur voiture à proximité de La Grand'Terre, la ferme de la famille Dominici, sur la commune de Lurs dans les Basses-Alpes (actuelles Alpes-de-Haute-Provence). Le patriarche est accusé, jugé condamné alors que rien ne prouve sa culpabilité. Il sera gracié.
