This doorway is the 'sittings entrance' to Tynwald on Prospect Hill in Douglas and provides public access to the public galleries of Tynwald, House of Keys and Legislative Chambers of sittings.

A baord is humg on the door announcing those sittings of the Chambers that are open to the public on days when sittings are being held.

Patricia Tutt in an Introduction to the Architecture of the Isle of Man describes this doowrway as follows:
"...neo-Baroque door-case with the arch-head broken pediment is supported by acanthus leaf scrolled brackets. The amorial keystone with the ship of state bears the date 1893-an optimistic year too early as usual."

The date is optimistic as the building was not completed until 1894 and the first sitting of the Tynwald Court was held on 20th December 1894. (visit link)

In the door-case there are wooded doors with ornate decoration in the rounded arch part of the case.
