Celý cyklus zacíná v r. 1945, kdy se mesíc po válce vracejí vlakem z koncentráku tri kamarádi - právník Kalina, doktor Veselý a mladík Zeman. Ani jeden z nich netuší, že se príštích nekolik desítek let bude jejich pracovní nápln denne prolínat a všichni se stanou nerozlucnými práteli.
