L'une des vingt-deux centrales de l'aménagement hydroélectrique des bassins de la Durance et du Verdon pendant les années 1950, cette centrale est dessinée par l'architecte Jean Crozet pour EDF.
Mise en service en 1959, l'usine, adossée au relief, est du type dit "à toit ouvrant" avec portique extérieur de 120 tonnes de force, circulant au-dessus de la salle des machines. Celle-ci abrite trois turbines de type Kaplan, trois alternateurs triphasés et trois transformateurs triphasés.

Pendant des années, quand j'étais petit, en allant vers Aix en Provence ou Marseille, j'étais fasciné par cette grande "Grenouille Bleue".
Impossible pour moi de rater le moment où on allait passer devant et ou je me collais à la fenêtre de la voiture pour la voir.
Plus tard, j'ai appris que cette Grenouille Bleue était partie intégrante de l'usine hydro-électrique de Jouques.
Cette Grenouille Bleue a dû en fasciner d'autres que moi puisqu'elle est inscrite au Monuments Historiques par arrêté du 21 juillet 1989 et fait partie de notre patrimoine industriel.

One of the twenty-two hydroelectric power plants in the Durance and Verdon basins during the 1950s, this power plant is designed by architect Jean Crozet for EDF. Commissioned in 1959, the plant, backed by relief, is of the type called "sunroof" with external gantry 120 tons of force, circulating above the engine room. It houses three Kaplan-type turbines, three three-phase alternators and three three-phase transformers.

For years, when I was little, going to Aix en Provence or Marseille, I was fascinated by this great "Blue Frog".
Impossible for me to miss the moment when we were going to pass in front of and where I stuck to the window of the car to see it.
Later, I learned that this Blue Frog was an integral part of the Jouques hydro-electric plant.
This Blue Frog has had to fascinate others than me since it is listed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 21 July 1989 and is part of our industrial heritage.
