Burleson Website

  • Albert Hendon Loyless operated his drugstore within the building under an agreement with the FWSTC to serve as their ticket agent and electric service representative.
  • First building in Burleson with a concrete foundation, electricity, and electric ceiling fans.
  • As constructed, the building featured a freight dock, office, and freight room, with a large store area on the Ellison Street side.
  • Behind the building was an electrical station which provided power to the town and a shack for motormen to rest in between the last run of the evening and the next morning.
  • The interurban operated from September 1, 1912 to April 30, 1931. During that time, 8,266,000 passenger fares were sold.
  • A.H. Loyless kept his drugstore in the building until about 1934.
  • Robert Garland Knox Deering purchased the building from Loyless in 1935 to house The Burleson News.
  • The Burleson News was published from the building until its last issue on September 25, 1985.
  • The City of Burleson purchased the land and building on June 8, 1990.
  • A 1993 bond election and additional funds provided by the City of Burleson allowed for the structure's complete renovation.
  • The Burleson Heritage Foundation, under a contract with the City of Burleson, has operated the Heritage Visitors Center since October 2000.
