Glen Prosen is one of the Angus Glens, a series of glacial valleys that run north-westwards into the Grampian Mountains from the fertile Strathmore to the south. The main glens are, from west to east, Isla, Prosen, Clova, Lethnot and Esk. Glen Prosen follows the Prosen Water for over ten miles, the river eventually reaching its source under the mountains of Mayer and Driesh to the north.

The narrow minor road that runs up the glen has a branch that cuts off to the right just over halfway up, and after a few hundred yards reaches the glens only sizeable settlement at Glenprosen Village. This consists of a few scattered dwellings and the tiny whitewashed church. A small car park is close by and this sign is situated just opposite the entrance to the church.

The 'You Are Here' marks your position on a map which takes in a wide area including Glen Prosen and Glen Clova. There are symbols for parking, information points, public conveniences, hotels, telephones and accommodation.

Also on the sign is information on Glen Prosen along with a history of Caterans (cattle rustlers), and the Ministers Path, a path that the minister took on foot from Glen Clova over the hills to Prosen to conduct the church service here. The sign marks the start of the path over to Clova, it being marked on the map with a blue line. Also marked with a red line is the route westwards towards Glen Isla to link up with the long distance Cateran Trail, a circular route that begins and ends in the town of Blairgowrie.
