A racially segregated plaque was added to the Soldiers and Sailor's Memorial Hall after 1922 to commemorate the men of Atchison County (white and "colored") who died in WWI. Each man, his rank, company, and cause of death was listed on that memorial plaque, as was his race.

In 2017, the original plaque had weathered and was in poor condition. The plaque was taken down, cleaned, refurbished, reinstalled and rededicated on 29 May 2017. See: (visit link)

The plaque reads as follows:

"Let us hold in grateful memory the Atchison County men who gave all for God, country and humanity in the World War 1917-1919
