"Henry POOLE 1873–1928 Monumental and allegorical sculptor. Born 28 January 1873 in London, son of the sculptor Samuel Poole. Studied at the Lambeth School of Art and the R.A. Schools 1892–7. Worked as an apprentice under Harry Bates, R.A., and later for G.F. Watts. Also worked for many years in association with the architect E.A. Rickards on many public buildings and monuments, including Westminster Central Hall and Cardiff City Hall, in which stands his statue of Giraldus Cambrensis. Other works include the memorial statue of Edward VII and the fountains at Bristol, the oak St George of the Reredos in the Chapel of St Michael and St George in St Paul's Cathedral, and the memorial plaque of William Blake in the crypt of St Paul's of 1927. Served in the Camouflage School 1915–18. A.R.A. 1920, R.A. 1927. Trustee of the Tate Gallery 1927. Died 15 August 1928 in London. Memorial exhibition at the Leicester Galleries 1929 and represented in the R.A. Late Members exhibition 1933. "A bronze tablet, showing in relief, a group of WW1 soldiers, kitted out and marching as though towards the trenches. On the plinth below are the dates 1914 1918, and below that the general commemoration to the officers and men of the Robin Hood battalions of the Sherwood Foresters who died in WW1. Central in the lower portion is a bronze gated recess, surmounted by the regimental crest, behind which is a book of remembrance."
