This pillar is situated in a spectacular location in Northern Fife on the southern side of the Firth of Tay on a north facing hillside, 93 metres directly above the Tay Road Bridge. The pillar does not sit on the summit of the hill, this is reserved for the Taybridge TV relay antenna which is a hundred yards or so to the south-east. The pillar is situated in green pasture a mile east of Newport-on-Tay, although separated from the town by the A92 dual-carriageway before it reaches the bridge. It is in good condition with the view uninterrupted across the Tay to the city of Dundee.

STEEPNESS: The route described is not particularly steep at any point.

TERRAIN: A track most of the way bound for the antenna. It can be wet in places higher up after rain. Just before the antenna compound is reached a gate leads to a faint path through a wood.

ACCESSIBILITY: Newport-on-Tay is the best starting point. Also the car park at the Tay Road Bridge Kiosk.

NAVIGATION: The car park is right at the foot of the hill and a direct route from here is steep and mostly trackless. The route up to the track from the car park takes an almost circular route into Newport and via Tay Street, Cupar Road and Station Brae, before crossing the dual-carriageway where the track begins on the opposite side of the road. Turn left at fork higher up and head for the antenna. At the gate on the left, head westwards through the wood, climb a fence and enter a field. The pillar should be directly in line with the bridge below.

DANGER: Care should be taken when crossing the busy A92 dual-carriageway.
