The ski jumping hill stands majestically above the Olympic city of Innsbruck, on the historic Bergisel, which has always been of great importance for the Tyrol and, in particular, Innsbruck: almost 200 years ago, brave Tyroleans fought for the freedom of their homeland, under the orders of their leader, Andreas Hofer. And it was in 1925, already, that the first jump ski jump was erected on this historic ground.
This sports facility received Olympic honors twice already: during the Olympic Games of 1964 and 1976, the Olympic flame was lit on the Bergisel. Sensational events of great magnitude also took place in this arena, where, in 1988, Pope John Paul II celebrated a mass for 60,000 believers.
The Bergisel arena is not only the meeting point of sportsmen and women whose sport arouses interest, every year in winter - among other things during the international tour of the four jumps - but also the sports facility dedicated to FIS competitions, as well as a year-round training center with a trampoline equipped with mats: athletes take their momentum on a special porcelain ramp, the finish track being covered with fiber mats.

Le tremplin de saut à ski trône majestueusement au-dessus de la ville olympique d’Innsbruck, sur l’historique Bergisel, qui a toujours revêtu une grande importance pour le Tyrol et, notamment, Innsbruck : il y a près de 200 ans, de courageux Tyroliens y combattirent pour la liberté de leur patrie, sous les ordres de leur chef, Andreas Hofer. Et c’est en 1925, déjà, que le premier tremplin de saut à ski fut érigé sur ce sol historique.
Cette installation sportive reçut les honneurs olympiques par deux fois déjà : lors des Jeux Olympiques de 1964 et 1976, la flamme olympique fut allumée sur le Bergisel. Des manifestations sensationnelles de grande ampleur eurent également lieu dans cette arène, où, en 1988, le Pape Jean Paul II célébra une messe pour 60000 croyants.
L’arène du Bergisel est non seulement le point de rencontre des sportifs et de ceux dont le sport éveille l'intérêt, tous les ans en hiver - entre autres lors de la tournée internationale des quatre tremplins – mais également l'installation sportive consacrée aux compétitions de la FIS, tout comme un centre d'entraînement ouvert toute l'année avec un tremplin équipé de tapis : les athlètes prennent leur élan sur une rampe spéciale en porcelaine, la piste d’arrivée étant recouverte de tapis en fibres.

Majestätisch thront die Sprungschanze oberhalb der Olympiastadt Innsbruck auf dem geschichtsträchtigen Bergisel, der für Tirol und insbesondere für Innsbruck schon immer große Bedeutung hatte: Vor etwa 200 Jahren kämpften dort mutige Tiroler unter ihrem Anführer Andreas Hofer für die Freiheit ihres Heimatlandes. Und schon 1925 wurde auf diesem historischen Boden die erste Sprungschanze errichtet.
Zweimal kam die Sportstätte zu olympischen Ehren: Bei den Olympischen Spielen 1964 und 1976 wurde das olympische Feuer auf dem Bergisel entzündet. Auch aufsehenerregende Großveranstaltungen fanden in der Arena statt, wo Papst Johannes Paul II. 1988 eine Messe für 60.000 Gläubige zelebrierte.
Die Bergisel-Arena ist nicht nur alljährlich im Winter – unter anderem bei der internationalen Vierschanzentournee – Treffpunkt für Sportler und Sportinteressierte. Die Sportstätte ist FIS-Wettbewerbsanlage und zugleich Ganzjahrestrainingszentrum mit Mattenschanze: Die Skispringer nehmen auf einer speziellen Porzellan-Spur Anlauf, die Aufsprungbahn ist mit gedämpften Fasermatten ausgelegt.
