EN This priory is located close to the Via Domitia, known as via publica then camin roumieu (way of Rome) in the Middle Ages. It was one of the main stages on this road that led from Spain to Italy via Provence. This place of worship was visited by many pilgrims and travelers attracted by the reputation of holiness attached to its founder.

The priory is adjacent to a small cliff, carved out of galleries, cave dwellings and anthropomorphic tombs, at the foot of which, under a columned portico, water still flows from the ancient sacred spring feeds a small brook trout.

The first text attesting to the presence of a priory in Carluc is a charter of donation drafted in 1011. It mentions a legacy to Estoublon made "to the Abbot Archinric, to his successors and to his monks, to St. Peter de Carluc, as well as to the monks who will reside in the monastery to be built ".

The priory depends on the abbey of Montmajour from the twelfth century, and also had a dozen priories under its dependence. The Notre-Dame chapel remains, the chapels of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Saint-Pierre have disappeared.
