Keimzelle des Weilers war das 1137 von den im benachbarten Mayschoß residierenden Grafen von Saffenburg gestiftetes Augustinerinnenkloster „Mariae vallis“. Besiedelt wurde es mit Nonnen aus dem Klosterrather Mutterhaus in den heutigen Niederlanden. Nach spärlichen Hinweisen in den Klosterrather Annalen unterhielten die ca. 40 Augustinerinnen in diesem ältesten Kloster des Ahrtals sieben Werkstätten, eine Brennerei, eine Bäckerei und ein Gästehaus.

Im Dreißigjährigen Krieg wurde das Kloster 1632 von schwedischen Truppen und 1646 durch Franzosen geplündert und beschädigt. Im Anfang des 18. Jahrhunderts wurde das Kloster wieder aufgebaut. Nach der Besetzung des Linken Rheinufers durch französische Revolutionstruppen (1792) flohen die Nonnen 1793. Im Jahre 1801 wurde das Kloster durch den französischen Staat endgültig aufgehoben, die Klostergebäude und Besitzungen wurden 1811 durch die französische Regierung auf Abbruch versteigert. Erhalten ist die Kirche als Ruine."

The cellar of the hamlet was the Augustinian convent "Mariae vallis", founded in 1137 by the counts of Saffenburg, who resided in the neighboring Mayschoss. It was settled with nuns from the Klosterrather mother house in the Netherlands today. After some time in the Klosterrather Annalen, the approx. 40 Augustinerinnen entertained seven workshops, a distillery, a bakery and a guest house in this oldest monastery of the Ahr valley.

In the Thirty Years' War, the monastery was plundered and damaged by Swedish troops in 1632, and in 1646 by Frenchmen. In the beginning of the 18th century the monastery was rebuilt. After the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops (1792), the nuns fled in 1793. In 1801, the monastery was definitively abolished by the French state, the monastic buildings and possessions were auctioned off by the French government in 1811. The church is preserved as a ruin."
