The dedicated plot for the Confederate Cemetery inside Atlanta's historic Oakwood Cemetery provided burial space and a headstone for indigent Confederate pensioners and their wives. It is located near the towering Confederate Memorial obelisk, and is rimmed with a granite border engraved "Our Confederate Dead".
A grey granite memorial at the site reads as follows:
"'Resolved: that the petition of the Atlanta Ladies Memorial Association, asking a donation of land for the purpose of interring the Confederate dead, be referred to the committee on cemetery and that said committee have full power to act in the premises agreed to.' The committee gave them the ground now marked "Unknown". 1867 minutes of city Council, Frank Ryan, clerk.
