DE: Mit der Skulptur wurden den Arbeitern, die die Rheinschiffe beladen ein Denkmal gesetzt.
Dargestellt ist ein Schiff, das sich im Wasser befindet, die Planke und die Kaimauer. Der Schärjer belädt gerade das Schiff. Die Skulptur ist so ausgerichtet, dass der Arbeiter Richtung Rhein läuft.
Schärjer sind Arbeiter, die eine Schubkarre vor sich herschieben. Der Ausdruck kommt aus der Mundart, in der eine Schubkarre als Schärskaa bezeichnet wird.
Sie war das Hauptarbeitsgerät der Neuwieder zum Be- und Entladen der Rheinschiffe. Vor etwa 100 Jahren verdienten viele Neuwieder so ihren Lebensunterhalt. Beladen wurden die Schiffe vorwiegend mit Bimssteinen.
Dem Schärjer wurde sogar ein Lied gewidmet, das heute noch als Neuwieder Hymne gilt:
1. Strophe:
Die Spatzen im Weidchen,
Die Fischlein im Rhein erfanden ein neues Lied.
Zuerst stimmten fröhlich die Kinder mit ein
Und dann sang das ganze Neuwied:
Refrain:
Mir sein Naiwidder Schärjer seit über dreihundert Johr,
Mir kennen käne Ärjer drum wären mit och net schroh.
Bei uns is käner der letzte
Bei uns kimmt käner zuerscht
Ob de dünnste oder de fettste
Bei uns es jeder en Ferscht.
2. Strophe:
Mir hann in Naiwidd en Geländerverein
An dem Club es alles dran.
Wenn die mal e bißje benebelt sein
Fänge die zu singe an:
Refrain: Mir sein Naiwidder Schärjer ...
3. Strophe:
Gar manch äner singt unser Schärjerlied,
So gut wie er singe kann
Doch am schienste singt et im Bundesgebiet
Noch immer et Wittmans Ann
Refrain: Mir sein Naiwidder Schärjer ...

EN: With the sculpture were placed a monument to the workers who loaded the Rhine ships.
Shown is a ship, which is in the water, the plank and the quayside. The Schärjer is loading the ship. The sculpture is arranged in such a way that the worker runs towards the Rhine.
Scharjers are workers who push a wheelbarrow before them. The expression comes from the dialect, in which is designated a wheelbarrow as Schärskaa.
It was the main tool for the new ships to load and unload the Rhine ships. About 100 years ago many newcomers earned their livelihood. The ships were mainly loaded with pumice stones.
The Schärjer even devoted a song, which is still regarded as a new anthem today:
1st verse:
The sparrows in the meadow,
The little fish in the Rhine invented a new song.
At first the children happily agreed
And then the whole Neuwied sang:
Refrain:
My Naiwidder Schärjer for over three hundred years,
I know käne Ärjer drum would be with och net schroh.
With us is käner the last
With us käner konser
Whether the thinnest or de fatest
With us, every man.
2. Stanza:
I could meet in Naiwidd en Geländerverein
At the club it all turn.
If the times e bißje be fogged
Catch the sings to:
Refrain: Me his Naiwidder Schärjer ...

Many of our singers sings,
As good as he can sing
But the most harsh sings in the federal territory
