Over 50 guitars are located in the Guitar Gallery: The Quest for Volume within the Museum of Pop Culture. One of them is a 1935 Gibson Electric Hawaiian guitar. A nearby placard reads:

Gibson's odd-looking new electric got hot in the spotlight

Sleek and shiny, this was the first electric model marketed and sold by Gibson. But even after the company tested the experimental model to your right, this lap steel guitar's aluminum body apparently expanded and went out of tune under the hot stage lights. Gibson immediately went back to the drawing board--and to a wooden guitar body. /blockquote>
