The former brewery of the abbey Heisterbach is one of two preserved original buildings of the cloister scenery.
The abbey Heisterbach established a building with the brewery and baking house and a grain mill in 1711. The mill wheel as well as the whole mechanics of the meal work were arranged in the eastern side of the building. The mill pond was to the south of the building. The height difference to the mill wheel amounted to 5 metres. A wooden water channel was partially led above the quarrystone wall available even today. The waterwheel and the meal work were diminished after 1918.
Wage tenants brewed beer in this building, baked bread and ground flour until 1803.
