Die Vogelbeobachtungshütte ist eine Station auf dem Weg der Artenvielfalt, einem Waldlehrpfad für Kinder an der Bonner Waldau. Von hier aus können die Kinder (und natürlich auch andere Besucher) die Vögel des Kottenforsts beobachten. Das sind unter anderem Amseln, Singdrosseln, Rotkehlchen, Zaunkönige, verschiedene Arten von Spechten und viele weitere Vogelarten.

Auf drei Informationstafeln in der Hütte werden den Kindern die verschiedenen Vogelarten des Waldes illustriert und deren Bedeutung für den Wald nähergebracht:
  • "Waldvögel der Waldau": Illustration der hier heimischen Vogelarten.
  • "Trommelwirbel unserer Spechte": Illustration verschiedener Specht-Arten und Erläuterung von Futter-, Nist- und Brutverhalten.
  • "Höhlenbauer und Nachmieter": Illustration und Beschreibung verschiedener anderer Tiere, die Vogelnester und -höhlen nutzen, nachdem sie von den Vögeln verlassen worden sind.
The Birds observation cabin is a station on the "Weg der Artenvielfalt" (Trail of Biodiversity), a forest educational trail for children at the Waldau of Bonn. From here the children (and, of course, other visitors) can observe the birds of the forest Kottenforst. Among them are blackbirds, song thrushs, robins, wrens, various types of woodpeckers and many other bird species.

The various bird species of the forest and their importance for the forest are illustrated and explained to the children on three information signs inside the cabin:
  • "Waldvögel der Waldau" (i.e. Forest birds of the Waldau): Illustration of the native bird species.
  • "Trommelwirbel unserer Spechte" (i.e. Drum roll of our woodpeckers): Illustration of different woodpecker species and explanation of feed, nesting and breeding behaviors.
  • "Höhlenbauer und Nachmieter" (i.e. Cave builders and next tenants): Illustration and description of various other animals using bird sigils and caves after they have been abandoned by birds.
