Between the towns of Canton and Stoughton is this stone marker, Witness Mark for Corner 3 between the towns.

The marker is located on a traffic island at the intersection of Bailey Street, Pine Street, and Island Street.

The marker is about a foot and a half tall and about 10 inches on a side. On one side is engraved the letter 'C' and the other 'S.'

Canton and Stoughton are relatively old towns within the commonwealth. Canton is the older of the two towns if you count settling. It was first settled in 1630 and incorporated in 1797. Stoughton was settled in 1713 but was incorporated earlier in 1726.

The line between the towns changed in 1797 and in 1847 - don't know if there were changed to the location of that corner at that time. I don't have a date that this monument was set. I took the last boundary adjustment as the date.
