Duchcov is situated in the picturesque landscape below the Ore Mountains, eight kilometres northwest of Teplice. The first written mention of the town dates back to 1240. Its many cultural heritage sites are evidence of its long history, which was closely linked with the Wallenstein family of nobles. There is also a museum devoted to Giacomo Casanova, who worked as the librarian to the Wallensteins in Duchcov Chateau up until his death here in 1798. Every year, the Casanova Celebrations are held on the anniversary of his death.
