At 227 S. Main St. is the Birthplace of Noah Webster (i 758-1843), renowned American lexicographer. It is an added lean-to, salt-box house of 1676. The ell and the paneling, some of which is very good, date from the i8th century. The rear wall represents some of the earliest New England brick work.

I had a great conversation with the museum curator. He indicated that Noah Webster and the definitions of words, was one of the uniting factors of the original colonies, establishing a common meaning to our language. Today the home is a museum.
