Née dans le Massachusetts en 1876, morte presque centenaire, Anna Hyatt Huntington est l'une des plus grandes sculptrices du XXe siècle américain. Elle devait retrouver la France sous de meilleurs auspices. Une copie de sa statue de Jeanne d'Arc est en effet offerte en très grande pompe à Blois par le mécène J. Sanford Saltus. Le succès est immense, Anna est acclamée. Elle gardera dès lors de la France un tel souvenir qu'Hubert Fillay, président de l'École de la Loire, apprend en 1933 qu'elle veut faire don à la ville d'une statue de Diane. Il n'échappe pas à l'historien que l'œuvre est d'une grande beauté, éblouissante, quel que soit l'angle sous laquelle on l'envisage. Le conseil municipal accepte avec joie le don et ses 2,50 m de grâce. Qu'admirer de plus dans cette divine Diane Chasseresse aux lignes si élancées?? La force?? La grâce?? Le dialogue avec le ciel?? L'artiste offre de surcroît 1.000 dollars pour l'érection du socle. « Je serais heureuse de figurer dans les beaux jardins historiques du château. » Figurez Madame, figurez?!"

Anna Hyatt Huntington, born in Massachusetts in 1876, died almost a century ago, is one of the greatest sculptors of the American twentieth century. She was to find France under better auspices. A copy of his statue of Joan of Arc is indeed offered in great pomp to Blois by the patron J. Sanford Saltus. The success is immense, Anna is acclaimed. From then on, she retained such a memory that Hubert Fillay, president of the Loire School, learned in 1933 that she wanted to donate a statue of Diana to the city.
