The Perigord Museum of Art and Archeology is in the heart of the city a great institution of the 19th century and the first museum created in the Dordogne. With 33,500 references in its inventories, it presents a selection of the most remarkable pieces on 2000m2 of permanent exhibition.
It proposes a journey around the history of the visual arts from prehistory to the present day, from a local, European and non-European (Africa-Oceania) point of view. It is the only museum of this nature in the Dordogne. It is recognized as a "museum of France", its collections and its architecture justify this label.
Le musée d’art et d’archéologie du Périgord est, au cœur de la ville, une grande institution du XIXe et le premier musée créé en Dordogne. Riche de 33 500 références inscrites dans ses inventaires, il présente sur 2000m2 d’exposition permanente, une sélection des pièces les plus remarquables.
Il propose un parcours autour de l’histoire des arts visuels de la préhistoire à nos jours, d’un point du vue local, européen et non européen (Afrique-Océanie). Il est le seul musée de cette nature en Dordogne. Il est reconnu « musée de France », ses collections et son architecture justifient ce label.
