Alle Mitarbeiter engagieren sich ausschließlich ehrenamtlich. Das Tätigkeitsprofil umfasst neben dem regulären Wachdienst an Wochenenden und Feiertagen in der Zeit von Ostern bis Oktober besonders die Absicherung von Regatten, Rheinschwimmen und Großveranstaltungen wie dem Bonn-Triathlon oder „Rhein in Flammen“ sowie die Einbindung in den Katastrophenschutz des DLRG Landesverbands Nordrhein. Beim Einsatzstichwort „Person im Rhein“ werden die Wasserretter durch die Leitstelle der Berufsfeuerwehr Bonn über Melder alarmiert."
