Der Bonner Löwe
Die Skulptur auf der romanischen Säule ist das alte landesherrliche Gerichtssymbol der Erzbischöfe und Kurfürsten von Köln und stellt einen Löwen dar, der wahrscheinlich einen Eber schlägt. Vermutlich handelt es sich um eine römische Arbeit, die in romanischer Zeit grob überarbeitet sein dürfte.
Als Wappentier hat der Löwe seine Bedeutung für Bonn bis heute bewahrt. Im Volksmund wird er auch als "steinernes Wölfchen" bezeichnet. Das Original des Bonner Löwen befindet sich am alten Rathaus am Markt.
Der Abguss ist ein Geschenk der Firma ISTA an die Bürgerinnen und Bürger der Stadt Bonn anlässlich der 2000-Jahr-Feier 1989.

The Bonner Lion
The sculpture on the Romanesque column is the ancient sovereign court symbol of the archbishops and electors of Cologne and represents a lion who is likely to hit a boar. Presumably it is a Roman work, which should be roughly reworked in Roman times.
The Lion has preserved its importance for Bonn until today. In the Volksmund, it is also referred to as a "stone wolf". The original of the Bonner Löwen is located at the old town hall on the market.
The casting is a gift from the company ISTA to the citizens of the city of Bonn on the occasion of the 2000 year anniversary 1989.
