This station is peripheral but it has an important role in the network as it's the origin of an extension of the network serving Singapore's International Airport. Passengers heading to the airport must change here from the East West Line to the airport extension.

The station open originally in 1989 but the platforms serving the airport extension are newer, from 2002.
