The Hunt House was built in 1836 by Bela T. Hunt. The house is constructed of locally produced bricks from from Penny's Brickyard (now Baker Park). The house was the first house constucted of brick in St. Charles and is thought to be the first Greek Revival style house constructed in St. Charles.

Bela Hunt became a successful businessman during the fifty plus years he resided in this house. He had interests in several businesses including a mercantile store, paper mill, tannery, lumberyard, and grain business.

The house remained in the Hunt family until 1980. The house is now owned by the St. Charles Heritage Center.
