"Bradford is the world’s first UNESCO City of Film. This permanent title bestows international recognition on Bradford as a world centre for film because of the city’s rich film heritage, its inspirational movie locations and its many celebrations of the moving image through the city’s film festivals, filmed related events and unique approach to learning about film and learning with film." link

Although underpasses are a useful feature of busy roads they are not usually the most attractive of places. This mural was painted to brighten it up and replace an earlier faded one.

As well as being a UNESCO City of Film, there is the National Media Museum nearby and so the subject of the mural being '100 Years of Film' was a natural choice. It has various film related scenes including titles of films made around Bradford, people watching a 3D film in the nearby IMAX theatre and lots of photographers waiting to take your picture as you approach the mural.

The mural was completed in September 2014 as part of a community scheme that recycles old and unwanted paint.

"Community RePaint Bradford has completed murals.

Our scheme in Bradford has created some wonderful paintings in a city centre underpass.

This is just one view of the paintings done by professional artists in Jacobs Well subway in Bradford. Designed by head artist Jennifer Wright, with help from other artists including Lynn Smith, Mark Firth, Miranda Philips and others from Artworks Creative have been working for a few weeks on the murals which have certainly brightened up the walkway.

The project has recycled paint donated to the Community RePaint scheme in Bradford. This project has made what could be a dreary place a showcase of colour and artistic talent. Volunteers have worked on the paintings, as well as members of the Stroke Recovery Group. Well done to everyone involved!" link
