"The building was built in 1899-1901 based on a plan by O. Polívka in the site of three demolished Baroque houses. Left (narrower) side of the building is a replica of the original Baroque house At the Golden Star. Sculptural decorations of the façade were made by L. Šaloun (allegorical symbols of four university faculties, Fire and water), F. Urban, F. Procházka and B. Schnirch (Fire alarm and Fighting the fire), ornamental decorations were done by F. Kraumann."
