A large obelisk at Antietam Battlefield honors the Fourteenth Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment. It is located 260 feet north of the Sunken Road now known as Bloody Lane.

The 14th Regiment of the Connecticut Volunteer Infantry was comprised of soldiers from central Connecticut. It was mustered in on August 23, 1862. Fewer than three weeks later, on September 17, 1862, the troops were engaged in some of the heaviest fighting of the Civil War at Antietam Battlefield, Sharpsburg, MD.
A 20' high granite obelisk, erected by the State of Connecticut in 1894, faces the Sunken Road known as Bloody Lane. On the front is the image of a shamrock and the following inscription:

THE SUPPORT OF THE FIRST BRIGADE
OF ITS DIVISION AT THE ROULETTE
LANE TWO HOURS; THEN WAS SENT TO
THE EXTREME LEFT OF THE FIRST
DIVISION OF THIS CORPS TO THE SUPPORT
OF BROOKE'S BRIGADE AND AT 5 P.M.
WAS PLACED IN SUPPORT BETWEEN
THE BRIGADES OF CALDWELL
AND MEAGHER OF THAT DIVISION
OVERLOOKING "BLOODY LANE" HOLDING
POSITION THERE UNTIL 10 A.M.
OF THE 18TH WHEN RELIEVED.
The left side of the monument is inscribed:

IN THIS BATTLE THE REGIMENT
LOST 38 KILLED AND MORTALLY

The back of the monument has the seal of the State of Connecticut and is is inscribed:
