Landing Ship Tanks, LSTs, are the primary ship used, since World War II, to transport troops and equipment to enemy held beaches around the world. A plaque in the Massachusetts State House describes the role of these vessels and honors the members of the Navy and Coast Guard from Massachusetts who served on these ships.

A plaque on the first floor of the Massachusetts State House has an image of a Landing Ship Tank flanked by anchors and the insignia of the US Navy, MA LST Association, and US Coast Guard and the following inscription:

LANDING SHIP TANK MEMORIAL

DEDICATED TO THE NAVY AND COAST GUARD MEN
OF MASSACHUSETTS
WHO MANNED LANDING SHIP TANKS DURING WORLD WAR II,
AND THE KOREAN AND VIET NAM CONFLICTS

THESE FLOATING GARAGES, CALLED "WORK HORSES,"
WERE THE LARGEST OCEAN GOING AMPHIBIOUS, VESSELS TO LAND
TANKS, OTHER VEHICLES, ARTILLERY, TROOP AND SUPPLIES
ONTO ENEMY HELD BEACHES IN EVERY MAJOR INVASION.

The Massachusetts State House at 24 Beacon Street in Boston is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm. All visitors must enter through the General Hooker entrance.
