This trail is part of the Chesapeake Bay Gateways and the Susquehanna River Greenway network. This is also part of the Endless Mountains Heritage Region.

There are many places where the Susquehanna can be used by boats. It is generally flat water. There are falls and dams that are a problem. They require a portage. Also there are many areas where the river is not deep enough for power boats. Canoes can manage fairly well. Canoe trips are arranged by clubs in the area.
