From the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office website statement of significance:
The Botsford Inn is the oldest functioning inn located in Michigan and is additionally significant for its association with auto baron Henry Ford. The original portion of the building was constructed by pioneer Orrin Weston in 1836 and converted into a tavern and inn by Stephen Jennings in 1841. Milton C. Botsford purchased the tavern in 1860 and operated the building as the Botsford Tavern. Threatened with demolition by a Grand River Avenue widening project, the inn was saved in 1924 by Henry Ford and rehabilitated. The building continues to house the inn and tavern and features many original interior elements.
