Die Briefmarke 'Zentral Messepalast' stammt aus der Serie 'Leipziger Herbstmesse 1983' und wurde von Oswin Volkamer entwurfen. Die Briefmarke hatte einen Wert von 10 Pfennig und eine Auflage von 16.000.000. Eine dieser 16 Millionen Briefmarken liegt bei mir. :)

Der Zentral Messepalast wurde zur Frühjahrsmesse 1914 eröffnet. Seinen imposanten Namen erhielt das Messehaus aufgrund der zentralen Lage an den zwei ehemaligen Handelsstraßen "via regia" (Reichsstraße) und "via imperii" (Grimmaische Straße).

Bis zum Jahr 1992 wurde das Messehaus für Messen genutzt. Zwischen 1996 und 1998 wurde das Gebäude abgerissen und hinter der Fassade neu hochgezogen. Heute bietet das Gebäude mit 18.000 m² Fläche ein modernes Geschäftshaus.

The stamp 'Zentral Messepalast' is part of series 'Leipziger Herbstmesse 1983' and was designed by Oswin Volkamer. The stamp had a value of 10 Pfennig and a circulation of 16.000.000. One of these 16 million stamps is mine. :)

The 'Zentral Messepalast' was opened at the 'Frühjahrsmesse' in 1914. Its imposing name was given to the exhibition center because of the central location on the two former trade routes "via regia" (Reichsstraße) and "via imperii" (Grimmaische Straße).

Until 1992 the building was used for trade fairs. Between 1996 and 1998, the building was demolished and newly constructed behind the front. Today the 18,000 m² building is a modern business building.
