This chapel was built when Abolitionists (including Hayt) broke away from the Presbyterian church. It served as an underground railway stop, when the boats weren't running on Cayuga Lake.

The building is now residential.
The application for National Register status lists a 1915 letter to the Ithaca Journal from an escaped slave. It described how the abolitionist faction withdrew from their church to establish a chapel. The escaped slaves were either taken by boat, or by land and the chapel was used as a stop.
