Das Wappen zeigt drei im Dreipass gestellte Beine/Füße. Farblich sind die Beine meist schwarz und der Untergrund gelb/golden gestaltet. Bei dem vorliegendem Wappen sind die Farben vertauscht.
Seit dem 13. Jahrhundert besteht das Wappen in seiner heutigen Form. Um die Bedeutung der Gestaltung des Wappen ranken sich verschiedene Erklärungen.
Als redendes Wappen: So trägt das Füssener Stadtwappen drei Füße, aufgrund des Namens [Füsse]n.
Die drei Füße könnten auch für die 3 Täler (Vils-, Lech- und Faulenbachertal) oder die 3 Haupttore (Lech-, Ritter- und Kuglertor) oder die 3 Hauptstraßen (Lechhalde, Ritter- und Reichenstraße) stehen.
