The Ahr is a 85.1 km long, western or left tributary of the Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. The mouth of the Ahr is located in the fertile plain between Remagen Kripp and the city of Sinzig, round about 53 m above sea level. The Ahr and its tributaries form the central water system, belonging to the East Eifel Ahr Hills. The Ahr drains a catchment area of 897.468 km². At her mouth the Ahr achieves an average discharge of 8 m³/s.
The nature reserve of the estuary of the Ahr is considered to be the only remaining natural or renatured estuary of a tributary of the Rhine (since its restoration in the year 1979).
The waymark coordinates were taken on the west bank of the Rhine and on the north bank of the Ahr.
