GREENWICH
Greenwich, London: Scientists and historians get equally twitchy over this place, its history being shot through with time and motion. It even has an asteroid named after it. The cradle of England’s maritime history, it is chockers with reminders that Britannia did indeed once rule the waves. The Brits adopted Greenwich Mean Time as standard way of setting clocks in 1847, and international time zones were set around it later.
Greenwich, Sydney: Similar aquatic themes, although this one has a shark net at its beach. And local MP, Treasurer Joe Hockey, probably prefers liquidity of a different kind. Famous residents Ruth Park (writer) and Norman Hetherington (creator of Mr Squiggle) both died in 2010."
