This is a memorial marker, he is actually in Hewitt Cemetery with family. Dry Creek Cemetery in Moravia has a veterans section (he moved to Moravian around 1805).

"Joseph Kies (born in Killingly, CT, son of Daniel and Abigail Kee)was a Rev. War Veteran. (see Memorial stone at Dry Creek Cemetery in Moravia). Joseph was a joiner (carpenter) and married Mary Nichols in NH in 1773 when they then lived in New Plainfield, NH. They moved back to Windham Co., CT, and had 6 children: Charlotte, George W., Stephen, Alpheus, John and Freeman. They moved to Moravia around 1805. "

"Chase's Regiment of Militia also known as the 13th New Hampshire Regiment of Militia was called up at Cornish, New Hampshire on September 22, 1777 as reinforcements for the Continental Army during the Saratoga Campaign. The regiment marched quickly to join the gathering forces of Gen. Horatio Gates as he faced British Gen. John Burgoyne in northern New York. The regiment served in Gen. William Whipple's brigade of New Hampshire militia. With the surrender of Burgoyne's Army on October 17 the regiment was disbanded on October 24, 1777."
