EN: The train station of Visp is a modern station building with shops and restaurants, north of the old town center and south of the industrial area. It is the most-use station of the Valais and one of the ten largest in Switzerland. The station is used daily by about 60,000 passengers. Around 340 trains stop here.

The station was opened in 1878 on the section Leuk-Brig of the Simplon railway, which was expanded to Italy until 1913 through the Simplon tunnel.

In 1891, a narrow gauge railway from Visp to Zermatt was opened. In 1930 this line was extended to Brig and connected to the Furka Oberalp railway. In 2003, the Brig-Visp-Zermatt Bahn merged with the FO to become the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn.

The opening of the Lötschberg base tunnel, which connects the Valais with German-speaking Switzerland in 2007, made Visp to a central hub between the east-west and north-south traffic. This role had the station of Bri beforeg, where the old Lötschberg route ends since 1913.

The train station of Visp is also the center of a wide spread bus network to the side valleys and other communities in the region.

In 2007, the station was awarded the National Prize FLUX for convincingly designed transport hubs.

In Visp trains of different categories stop, from regional commuter lines run to EuroCity connections. The destinations of these lines include Bern, Basel, Zürich, North East Switzerland, Brig, Italy, Geneva, Zermatt, Andermatt and St. Moritz.

1891 wurde die Schmalspurstrecke von Visp nach Zermatt eröffnet. 1930 diese Linie nach Brig weiter verlängert und mit der dort endenden Furka-Oberapl-Bahn verbunden. 2003 fusionierten die Brig-Visp-Zermatt Bahn mit der FO zur Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn.

Mit der Eröffnung des Lötschberg-Basistunnels, der das Wallis mit der Deutschschweiz verbindet, wurde Visp 2007 zu einem zentralen Knotenpunkt zwischen den Ost-West und dem Nord-Süd-Verkehr. Diese Rolle hatte seit 1913 der Bahnhof von Brig, wo die Lötschberg-Scheitelstrecke endet.

Der Bahnhof von Visp ist auch das Zentrum eines weit verzweigten Busnetzes in die Seitentäler und andere Gemeinden der Umgebung.

2007 wurde der Bahnhof mit dem nationalen FLUX-Preis für überzeugend konzipierte Verkehrsknoten ausgezeichnet.
