Schloss Hubertusburg ist eine der reifsten Leistungen sächsischer barocker Baukunst und das größte Landschloss Europas. Die Arbeiten am Schloss begannen 1721 unter dem Ingenieuroffizier und Architekten Johann Christoph von Naumann. Vier Kompanien Soldaten und etwa 700 Handwerker waren am Bau beteiligt. Nach drei Jahren war das Schloss fertiggestellt.
Auf die erste Bauperiode folgte unter dem Architekten und Baumeister Johann Christoph Knöffel die zweite von 1733-1752. Das dreiflügelige Hauptgebäude wurde zur viertelkreisförmigen Rundflügelanlage umgebaut, die bis heute besteht.
Das Gebäudeensembles wurde im Laufe der Geschichte wechselseitig genutzt. So diente es unter anderem als Königlich Sächsische Hof- und Jagdresidenz, Steingutfabrik, Militärmagazin, Lazarett 1813–1815, Königlich Sächsische Jagdresidenz, Strafanstalt, Landeshospital, Versorgungshaus für weibliche Geisteskranke, Erziehungsanstalt für "blödsinnige" Kinder, Blindenvorschule, Unteroffiziersvorschule der Wehrmacht, Militärlazarett, Amerikanische und sowjetische Kommandantur, Kliniken Hubertusburg, Fachkrankenhaus.

ENGLISH:
"Schloss Hubertusburg" is one of the most mature achievements of Saxon Baroque architecture and the largest country-castle in Europe. The work on the castle began in 1721 under the engineer officer and architect "Johann Christoph von Naumann". Four companies of soldiers and about 700 craftsmen were involved in the construction. After three years, the castle was completed.
After the first building phase the second followed from 1733 to 1752 by the architect and master builder "Johann Christoph Knöffel". The three-winged main building was converted into a quarter-circle round winged building, which still exists today.
The building complex was used alternately during the history. It served among other things as Royal Saxon Court and hunting lodge, "Steingut-factory", military warehouse, field hospital 1813-1815, Royal Saxon hunting residence, prison, state hospital, care home for female mental patients, reformatory for "stupid" children, blind preschool, "Unteroffiziervorschule" of Wehrmacht, military hospital, American and Soviet commandant, clinics Hubertusburg, specialist hospital.
