A sign accompanying the sculpture reads:
"Eating Meat
The antelope will provide nutritious meat
and marrow for the early human female
and her social group. Homo erectus
butchered animals using simple stone
tools. The ability to scavenge and hunt
large animals helped this species survive
as it spread to new environments."
The life-sized figure depicts a nude female Homo erectus carrying an antelope on her back. The animal's long horns embrace her head.
The 2010 sculpture is by John Gurche.
